  QUOTE OF THE DAY

"I have a fairly vast collection of Hermès to offer somebody" – Drake has been collecting Birkin bags for that TBD special someone. YOLO.

The Story

President Trump is officially rolling back some Obama-era policies on Cuba.

Gimme the background

The US and Cuba spent more than 50 years ignoring each other, thanks to that time the CIA unsuccessfully planned an invasion into Cuba. And that time Cuba let the Soviet Union build missile launch sites there and almost started a nuclear war. And the two don't see eye to eye, especially because of Cuba's alleged human rights violations. That led to a freeze of US-Cuba relations that's only started to thaw a few years ago under President Obama – and an economic embargo that still exists today. Congress has the power to lift it, but many lawmakers aren't on board.

What's happening now?

A few months ago, President Trump announced he's pressing rewind to pre-Obama policies. Yesterday, he made it official. He's banning Americans from visiting dozens of hotels, stores, and other businesses in Havana – ones with ties to Cuba's government. And most American travelers can't go there unless it's with a tour group or representative approved by the State Department. Trump's admin says these rules will help prevent American money from going to the communist gov.

Should I cancel my trip to Cuba?

Not necessarily. Your TBD Cuba plans depend on a few things, like your travel purpose (personal, humanitarian, educational) and when you booked your trip. One of the only ways you can now travel solo is by doing a trip that supports the Cuban people – but be prepared to have full itineraries and put your money towards small businesses while you're there.

The UN thinks it's time the US drops its 1960s embargo. It says Cuba shouldn't be isolated from one of the strongest economies in the world. But the US says it won't budge until the "continued repression" there stops.

REPEAT AFTER ME...

What to say when your work rival praises you in front of the boss...

Well this is something new and different. Today, during the Beijing stop of his Asia trip, President Trump made an appearance with Chinese President Xi Jinping. And tried to start a bromance. Trump said he doesn't blame China for getting unfair trade advantages over the US, and instead pointed the finger at past US administrations for letting the trade deficit grow. He also called Xi a "special man" and said that the two of them have "great chemistry." Swipe right. Trump campaigned on the promise to take a harder line on China when it comes to trade. While Trump did call on China to open its market and highlighted American investment deals with Chinese companies, some think this shift in tone took the 'tough' out of 'tough love.' The two leaders also talked about North Korea, and agreed that the country should curb its nuclear weapons enthusiasm. But they stopped short of announcing any new policies against NK. Psst...want to know more about the North Korea threat? We Skimm'd it for you.

What to say when you hear that Panera is buying Au Bon Pain…

At least someone's sealing the deal. AT&T's merger isn't going as well. Yesterday, the Justice Department reportedly told AT&T it can't buy Time Warner unless it drops either Turner Broadcasting (which owns CNN) or DirecTV. Because, monopolies. The buy would let AT&T compete with the big guys, like Facebook and Google, for online advertisers. But some antitrust lawyers are saying the DOJ's response doesn't really make sense. This isn't the first time the DOJ stopped AT&T from going through checkout. Back in 2011, AT&T dropped a merger with T-Mobile out of fear of a similar US lawsuit. But this time, the DOJ's call to drop CNN had some people wondering 'why the ultimatum?' and whether it means the Trump administration may be retaliating against it. AT&T's CEO said yesterday that the company has no plans to drop the network.

What to say when you hear that sheep can recognize famous faces…

Thanks, science. A new study also found that IUDs may reduce the risk of cervical cancer. IUDs: birth control devices that can stay in your lady parts for years. They're more than 99% effective. Researchers dug into the data and found that women who used IUDs were more than 30% less likely to have cervical cancer. They think this is because IUDs promote an immune response that fights HPV, the leading cause of cervical cancer. IUDidn't know that.

What to say when you're OOO...

Can't be reached. Turns out universities have been sending their money overseas to avoid paying taxes. This comes from the Paradise Papers, documents that leaked earlier this week exposing the sometimes-shady ways rich people and companies save their money overseas. Like Bono, the Queen of England, and President Trump's commerce secretary Wilbur Ross. Yesterday, more than 100 US universities - like Columbia, USC, and Johns Hopkins - got added to the list. They have been using offshore accounts to invest in things like oil, gas, and coal. And hide where the money was coming from. They've tucked away a combined $500 billion in rewards. So that's how they get so well-endowed.

What people are talking about...

Kevin Spacey. Yesterday, the actor was cut from the movie "All the Money in the World," before it comes out next month. This comes after multiple allegations of sexual harassment and assault have come out against him. And after Netflix showed Frank Underwood the door. Now, director Ridley Scott has decided to give him the axe too. And will re-shoot all of his scenes with another actor, Christopher Plummer, before next month's release. Guess that house of cards is coming down.

What to say when you hear there's going to be a Harry Potter version of Pokemon Go…

Good things await. Like the new Apple TV show with Rachel Green and Elle Woods.
