Skimm'd after waiting in line at Trader Joe's

  QUOTE OF THE DAY

"Drumstick has a very, very bright future ahead of him" – President Trump on one of the turkeys he pardoned.

THE FCC WON'T LET NET NEUTRALITY BE

The Story

The FCC wants to ditch net neutrality.

What's that again?

It's the idea that all traffic on the Internet should be treated equally. Meaning Internet service providers can't make content providers pay for speedier connections – or block certain websites if they don't.

What do Internet providers say?

The Verizon's and Comcast's of the world argue that it isn't the gov's place to regulate their businesses this way. Plus, it discourages them from investing in new technologies.

What do content providers say?

The YouTube's and lifestyle blogs of the world say making companies pay for faster connections puts startups and smaller sites at a disadvantage.

How did we get here?

In 2015, the FCC administrators appointed by President Obama voted in favor of net neutrality – meaning Internet providers couldn't charge more for speed or access. Now, the FCC chairman appointed by President Trump is saying 'nevermind.'

And now?

Blast from the past. The FCC announced it wants to go back to letting Internet providers play by their own rules. The committee will vote to make this official next month.

The FCC recently rolled back certain regulations to let companies own a newspaper and TV station in the same market – giving big co's a looot of flexibility in the market. This new move looks like it might be a pattern.

REPEAT AFTER ME...

What people are watching…

The US Navy plane. This morning, a plane carrying 11 US servicemen crashed in the Pacific Ocean off Japan. The plane was on its way to a US aircraft. 8 servicemen have been found in "good condition." A search and rescue effort for the remaining three people is ongoing.

What to say when you hear Meg Whitman's moving on from HP...

Uber's new CEO is jealous. New York's attorney general has launched an investigation into Uber. Yesterday, it came out that 57 million Uber users and drivers had their personal info hacked last year. And that the company's employees paid the hackers $100,000 to keep it a secret. Uber's new CEO says he didn't learn about the hack until recently, and has shown two Uber employees the door as a result. Meanwhile, if you saw some of last season's GOT episodes before they aired, you might have this guy to thank.

What to say when you've finished all the pumpkin pie...

Time to leave. Yesterday, Zimbabwe's 93-year-old president and dictator Robert Mugabe resigned. He was the world's oldest leader and one of the longest-serving in Africa. This came after he fired his VP so his wife could succeed him, which didn't sit well with a lot of people. Including the military. It responded by taking over the country and putting Mugabe under house arrest. And his ruling party threatened to impeach him. Everyone thought he'd take the hint and resign. He didn't. Now apparently he has. Meanwhile, Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri changed his mind - he's not resigning just yet. Last month, he resigned while in Saudi Arabia, blaming Hezbollah and Iran for meddling in his country's politics and saying he feared for his life. Now, he's back and the country's Iranian-backed president is asking him to hit pause on the resignation and talk it out.

What to say when the turkey tastes off…

I feel sick. Here's the latest on people behaving badly. Pixar's co-founder is out. So is Charlie Rose from PBS and CBS. 36 SNL alums are standing behind Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) who's been accused of sexual misconduct by two people. Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) once paid a former staffer in a wrongful termination settlement but says he didn't sexually harass her, despite reports to the contrary. And President Trump says Alabama's Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore should be elected in next month's special election because "we don't need a liberal person in there." Moore has been accused of sexual misconduct by nine women who say they were teenagers at the time – two who say they were minors.

What to say when someone lets you be first to get food...

I think I love you. Yesterday, "Partridge Family" star David Cassidy died at age 67, after being hospitalized for liver and kidney failure. His role as Keith Partridge – the TV family band's lead singer and guitarist – gave him teen idol status in the '70s. Their hit song "I Think I Love You" reached number one on the Billboard charts. And he continued a solo music career long after the show ended.

What people are talking about...

Cyntoia Brown. She's a former child sex slave who killed the person who bought her. This happened in 2004, when she was 16 years old. She was later convicted for murder and isn't up for parole until she's in her 60s. Justice not served.

What to say while watching the turkey in the oven...

Chrissy Teigen's got a bun in hers.

SMALL BALLS

Rivalry Week

When the Bayside Tigers and Valley Highs of college football take it to the field this week. Big deal, since these are some of the last games before playoff time. The top teams like Alabama, Clemson, Miami, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Auburn, Georgia, and Ohio State still have their eyes on the prize (aka a playoff spot). Ready, set, pressure. Here's more on where and when to watch.

SKIMM LIFE

SKIMM TO GO

For when you're feeling the Thanksgiving spirit…

Check out Empower Her Network. It's an organization for domestic human trafficking survivors founded by our Skimm'r of the Week Abigail Fabiaschi. Empower Her Network helps survivors with everything from housing to finding a job. If you're looking to combine gift-giving with giving back, 100% of proceeds of these Lulu Frost bracelets go to Abigail's organization. And Skimm'rs get a little something off the price tag.

For when you're starting to get cabin fever...

"Seven Days of Us" by Francesca Hornak gets you. It's about a family that's quarantined because of a deadly virus. They're forced to hang out under one roof for Christmas. Jingle hells.

For when your aunt who's active on Facebook brings up politics...

Cocktail, anyone?

PROGRAMMING NOTE

Skimm HQ is stuffing itself on turkey and stocking up on all the wine. No Daily Skimm until Monday. Happy Thanksgiving.
