Skimm'd with some tips for dealing with anxiety

  QUOTE OF THE DAY

"Scouts BSA" – What the Boy Scouts are calling themselves since girls will be involved soon. There's your PSA on the BSA.

BANNED

The Story

Iowa lawmakers just passed the nation's toughest abortion bill.

Tell me more.

The bill bans most abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected – usually around six weeks in. It makes exceptions for some rape and incest cases, and when the mother's life is at risk. Now it's up to the state's pro-life governor to decide whether to sign off. She hasn't said what she'll do.

This all sounds familiar…

That's because other states have recently passed similar laws. Earlier this year, Mississippi passed a law that would ban abortions after 15 weeks – including in cases of rape and incest.

What do critics say?

A lot of women don't even know they're pregnant at six weeks. So we'll see you in court.

What do supporters say?

We were hoping you'd say that. If this bill is signed, it could pave the way for a Roe v Wade do-over with the Supremes.

theSkimm

Pro-life advocates have been hoping for a chance to overturn Roe v Wade for decades. With SCOTUS's newest right-leaning justice, conservatives might have a shot.

REPEAT AFTER ME...

What to say to your friend who always escalates things…

This one's for you. Yesterday, President Trump said that he might have to "get involved" in a fight between the Justice Department and some House Republicans. For weeks, a group of Republicans have been demanding documents from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein – including some #TBT docs about the investigation into Hillary Clinton's private email server. Rosenstein is overseeing the special counsel's Trump-Russia investigation since his boss Jeff Sessions recused himself. He hasn't shared all the docs from it, since some are sensitive. Now, some House Republicans have drafted legislation to impeach him. And Trump says he might "use the powers granted to the Presidency" to get Rosenstein to turn over the docs. Meanwhile, Trump's legal team had another shakeup. White House lawyer Ty Cobb is out. Emmett Flood – who represented President Clinton during his impeachment – is in. They might need the help: Rudy Giuliani is spreading deets about that Stormy Daniels payment.

What to say when no one laughs at your joke…

I'll see myself out. So will Cambridge Analytica. The political consulting firm is declaring bankruptcy in the US and UK. Turns out, being synonymous with Facebook's privacy scandal didn't do wonders for the biz. Now, they're officially exiting left. Byeeee.

What to say when your friend finally pays your Venmo request…

Settled. The two black men that were arrested at a Starbucks in Philadelphia have settled with the company and the city. Last month, the men went to a Starbucks in Philly for a business meeting. While they were waiting for another person, one of them asked if he could use the bathroom. The manager – who's white – said it was for paying customers only and asked them to leave. They didn't. She called the police and they were arrested. Cue backlash against both Starbucks and the police. Now, they're all coming to an agreement. The men settled with Starbucks for an undisclosed amount and an offer from the company to pay for a college degree program. They settled with the city for $1 each, and the creation of a $200,000 fund to help young entrepreneurs. The men came up with the idea as a way to create "true change over time."

What to say when you hear about Stephen Hawking's last paper…

It's honestly humbling how much we don't know.

What to say to your friend who's been devastated about MoviePass not being unlimited...

Shh, it's all okay now.
