Trump Won. What Does It Mean for Your Health Care?

Vibe check: How are we doing today? Whether you’re feeling great or unwell about former President Trump’s win, I think we could all use a light distraction. So here are some of the, uh, more interesting headlines I’ve come across this week:

Catch up on the latest health news, tips, and trends.

A recent investigation found that some dentists are unnecessarily pulling healthy teeth — and the reasons why are infuriating. It never hurts to get a second opinion.

Hormone therapy is finally shedding the stigma that's long haunted it, yet many women still don’t have access to the treatment. Excuse us while we repeat ourselves:  Women 👏 deserve 👏 better.

Apparently, vaping is no longer cool — and "cigfluencers" are making sure everyone knows it. Your lungs would still like to have a word.

Some TikTokers are convinced their toilet paper is causing yeast infections. Before you toss yours out, read this

If you’re dealing with the “sunlight blues,” here are two seemingly contradictory ways to fight them off. Hello darkness, my new friend.

We Have To Talk About…

President Elect Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump

Trump Won. What Does It Mean for Your Health Care?

Another Trump presidency is set to begin in January — and experts are already predicting he will shake up the health care industry (for better or worse is yet to be determined). It wasn’t a key issue for Trump on the campaign trail, but he’s left some breadcrumbs about how he might handle health care while in office.

When it comes to your health, Trump has suggested he might...

  • Veto a federal abortion ban, but could be open to limiting access to abortion pills

  • Support IVF and have the government or insurance companies cover the cost

  • Protect religious freedoms, which could mean limiting access to birth control

  • Stop gender-reassignment surgeries for minors, as well as federal funding for these procedures

  • More or less leave the Affordable Care Act alone (although he’s been inconsistent about that) and may instead work to lower costs within the marketplace

  • Push for more transparency around prescription drug costs

  • Propose tax credits for long-term caregivers

Trump has also indicated that he'll work with RFK Jr., who doesn’t have any medical or public health degrees, to "make America healthy again." Experts say RFK Jr. could take on a large role in helping the admin do things like ban vaccines and fluoride from public water.

How likely is this to become a reality?

Campaigns are full of ideas and promises that can’t always be met. But Republicans are set to take the Senate (as of this writing, the House still hasn’t been called), which could help Trump push through these policies early on once he’s inaugurated on Jan. 20.

Your move

No matter who you voted for or how you feel about what you just read, know that your emotions are valid. Feeling a sense of grief? Feeling like you’re on cloud nine? Acknowledge that those feelings are real.

And even though the election is over, you can still make your voice heard. As Trump and lawmakers get to work in DC in January, reach out to your elected officials to let them know if you do or don’t support policies they're working on. Politicians work for us, not the other way around.

  • Use a moisturizer with lipids. Like ceramides or squalane. These help lock moisture into your skin.

  • Use oil-based or creamy cleansers. They’re less likely to strip the skin’s oils compared to gel cleansers.

  • Invest in a humidifier. It releases moisture into the air and helps prevent the heating in your home from drying out your skin.

Here are some of the products Yadav recommends.
